There are a number of reasons as to why wrinkles appear on the skin. Unfortunately, stress and environmental factors can hasten the signs of ageing by reducing the elasticity of our skin, and that leads to premature wrinkling. There isn’t a magic cream or cure all solution to preventing the signs of ageing, but there are some healthy habits that are effective in staving off the effects of ageing.

Healthy Sleep

Skin needs sleep to be healthy. Physicians recommend about 8 hours of sleep and some experts suggest sleeping on your back has the greatest effect. Those that promote sleeping on your back share the opinion that the position leads to optimum circulation and this maximizes the distribution of nutrients and oxygen. Additionally, some cite that the effects of gravity are decreased, and this cuts the strain on facial skin.

Sun Protection

UV rays penetrate the skin and can cause severe skin damage. Experts suggest wearing a sunscreen daily and in all weather conditions. Additionally, skip the tanning beds and also avoid intentionally sunbathing.

No Nightcaps

Moderate drink won’t hurt your skin, but the timing of your drinking may actually have an effect. If you want to have a nightcap, have your drink about 3 hours prior to going to bed. This reduced the leakage of capillaries and will reduce the chances of puffy skin. Puffiness in the skin will increase the chances for the emergence of wrinkles.

Avoid Pollutants

It’s a little bit harder to avoid all the pollutants in the air. However, for smokers it’s as easy as quitting. The toxins in cigarettes and their smoke can lead to accelerated ageing and the condition of increased wrinkling known as “smoker’s face.”

Diet

Eating foods that are rich in vitamins, nutrients, and anti-oxidants. This can generally be achieved by incorporating 5 to 7 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.

Exercise

Yes, exercise is generally good for the body. But, did you know that is also fights the emergence of wrinkles? Exercising keeps the muscles of your entire body firm and toned, and this includes those in the face and neck. Also, the increased circulation and sweat helps to maintain your skin’s elasticity. However, remember to keep hydrated after your workout.

Hydration

Your skin needs proper moisturization both inside and out. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water per day and be sure to remain hydrated after working out. The application of a lotion or cream on your skin once per day will help keep your skin moisturized from the outside and retain moisture.
