What is NAD+?
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) therapy is the latest breakthrough in anti-aging and brain health. Found in virtually all living cells, NAD+ is derived from Vitamin B and is essential to sustaining life.
NAD+ is a naturally occurring coenzyme found in cells that promotes cell regeneration and the conversion of cellular energy. It is a crucial compound for the human body as it is involved in DNA repair, cell repair and healthy cell metabolism.
Increasing NAD+ levels will slow down the aging process and reverse age-related diseases.
NAD+ therapy can be beneficial to individuals who are:
- Interested in extending their lifespan
- Seeking to increase energy levels and reduce fatigue
- Interested in restoring neurological function
- Experiencing cognitive decline
- Desiring to restore muscle strength and function
- Accelerating weight-loss programs
- Recovering from addiction and substance abuse
Declining NAD+ levels are one of the main causes of aging
Scientists know that NAD+ is one of the most important molecules in the body and that we lose it with age, resulting in a variety of health issues. NAD+ levels decline during the aging process and by middle age, NAD+ has fallen to less than 50% of youthful levels and down to 1% – 10% by the age of 80. The decline of NAD+ results in sirtuins being turned off and reduced PARP activity. These two combined negatively impact our brain function, neurological health, energy levels, heart condition and weight.
Why Is NAD+ important to combat aging?
World renown Harvard anti-aging scientist, Dr. David Sinclair, discovered that as NAD+ levels decline, it directly accelerates the negative effects of the aging process. What Dr. Sinclair discovered was a class of superhero genes, known as sirtuins, which play a large role in how quickly the body ages. Sirtuins are basically the anti-aging CEOs of your cells. When turned on sirtuins protect your DNA and thus regulate the cellular aging process. However, sirtuins require NAD+ to work to start/stop protective pathways that are linked to pathologies of age-related diseases. In other words, sirtuins are able to “turn on” and “turn off” certain genes linked to aging just like a light switch. With bountiful amounts of NAD+, your cells are able to activate genes to prevent and correct DNA damage allowing your cells to live long and healthy lives, leading to better quality and longer life for you.
A high dose of NAD+ quickly optimizes your cellular NAD+ levels, which revs up the cell’s engines (called the mitochondria) to produce more energy, for a healthy brain function and overall anti-aging benefits.
Tips for increasing NAD+ levels naturally:
- Exercise is one of the easiest ways to enhance your NAD+ levels and boost your overall health. In addition to keeping you strong and at a healthy weight, regular exercise can increase the DNA-rebuilding proteins in your body.
- Limiting sun exposure. If you spend much time in the sun, you may be prematurely depleting your own supply of NAD+. Direct sunlight on the skin forces your body to use increased amounts of NAD+ to repair cell damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.
- Seek the heat. Although time in the direct sunlight isn’t good for your overall health or NAD+ levels, spending time in natural or artificial heat can boost those levels. Heat sources, like hot tubs, saunas, and heated pools, cause your heart to pump faster, requiring more energy from your body to keep cool. This triggers the increased production of NAD+ to supply needed energy.
- Fasting and ketosis diets. Intermittent fasting is an eating method that involves periods of eating and cycles of fasting. This eating pattern triggers body shock, which can boost your natural supply of NAD+. Another popular eating plan is a keto diet, which involves following a low-carb, high-protein, healthy fats food plan. This type of diet can help you lose significant weight and enhance your natural levels of NAD+.
What is the best way to administer high doses of NAD+ ?
- Oral ingestion is not the best way to administer high doses of NAD+, because there is a very poor absorption from the gut into the bloodstream.
- Intravenous is the best method, because 100% of NAD+ is absorbed and reaches our cells.
